Ad Astra Spoken Interpretation

What is Spoken Interpretation?

Spoken Interpretation is the act of listening to what is said by one person in one language and communicating that verbally to another person in their preferred language.

This can be performed in 2 ways: Consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. Both consecutive and simultaneous interpretation services can be provided remotely as well as face-to-face. If you’re looking for non-spoken interpretation services (for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community), you can choose to learn more about our premium non-spoken language services such as American Sign Language and transliteration.

Choosing the right professional interpretation service partner can make all the difference in your event, meeting or presentation. With hundreds of languages and dialects being spoken in North America alone, it’s critical that you know that the information being interpreted is conveyed accurately to your non-English speaking audience and/or Deaf or Hard of Hearing peers.

What is Simultaneous Interpreting?

Simultaneous interpretation is the act of interpreting what one person says in one language and simultaneously communicating what is said into another language, all while matching the meaning across the two languages.

As you can imagine, this requires not only a mastery of the languages involved, but an outstanding ability to process incoming information while being able to communicate it instantly in another language.

The interpretation must be unbiased and clearly denote the proper emotions, diplomacy and other industry specific terms.

What is Consecutive Interpreting?

Consecutive interpretation is when an interpreter listens to one person and then conveys what was said to another individual in their language.

This is used in circumstances where an interpreter accompanies a person to an event, meeting, negotiation, etc.

Consecutive Interpretation is often considered more accurate because there is time and space to think, pause and clarify. However, it’s not suited for all situations.
